Mustangs Host First Home League Game this Saturday!
The Indiana Mustangs (2 – 5) will host the undefeated Columbus Fire (5 – 0) this Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Hare Chevrolet Field - Noblesville High School. The Mustangs have had the misfortune of opening this season with three consecutive league road losses, and they are hoping to turn around their season at home this weekend. Last year, the Mustangs were undefeated at Hare Chevrolet Field. The Mustangs have struggled each week with key players missing and that has proved devastating. The Mustangs have added several new players in the past week including former Indiana All Star Jeep Adams from Ben Davis and running back Kendale Williams from Arlington High School.
Although the Mustangs lost last week to the undefeated Southern Michigan Timberwolves, the Mustangs did show marked signs of improvements as the defense held the league’s leading rusher Anthony Sherrill to only 64 yards rushing. Sherrill has averaged nearly 200 yards per game and he is the all time rushing leader at the Eastern Michigan University. The Mustang defense was led by a strong performance from middle linebacker, Jeep Adams, who lead the team in tackles in his first game out. Offensively, the Mustangs looked greatly improved with their stellar quarterback, Eric Hooks, finally in the line-up for his first game of the season. Three weeks ago, Hooks was featured on Spike TV’s reality show Pros vs. Joes, as his team defeated the Pros that featured three former NFL Pro Bowlers including quarterback Michael Vick. Kendale Williams also showed signs of brilliance as he rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns, and he is quickly becoming the team’s top offensive threat.
Last week, the Fire played last year’s league champion Kings Comets in a rematch of the 2009 MCFL Championship game except this time the Fire won 26 – 25, scoring a touchdown late in the game to secure the win. The Comets won the MCFL championship over the Fire last year by blocking a field goal on the final play of the game. The Fire will feature one of the best quarterbacks in the league, Antwaun Gibbs. Gibbs was the MVP of the MCFL in 2009, and he will be one of the key players that the Mustangs must stop.
The Mustangs are back at home next Saturday, August 28th when they face the Traverse City Wolves in a non-league contest. Gates open at 4 pm and kickoff is scheduled for 5 pm at Noblesville High School.
